Our Leadership Team
Matthias Naumann
Managing Partner Switzerland
Matthias is Managing Partner of our Swiss office and member of the European Management Team of BCG. He is a core member and active contributor to the global Financial Institutions and Insurance Practice Groups. Outside of financial services he is experienced in the fields of travel and tourism, airlines and pharmaceuticals. Matthias spent over one and a half year in the Sydney office where he worked for leading financial institutions and airlines in Asia Pacific.
With over 12 years of experience Matthias has worked with leading Financial Services players on a broad range of topics, such as strategic positioning and directions as well as evaluating M&A opportunities and PMIs of leading banks and insurance companies.
Matthias holds a Masters degree in Economics from St. Gallen University (HSG) as well as an MBA from RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), New York.
Thomas Achhorner
Partner & Managing Director
Thomas is a Partner in our Swiss office. He leads BCG's Information Technology Practice and also heads the firm's worldwide competence center for core banking modernization. He has previously worked in our Sydney, Hong Kong and Beijing offices and has accumulated over twenty years of Financial Services and IT experience.
Highlights of Thomas' experience include justifying, planning and executing large scale IT platform replacement programs, setting up global operating centres, modernising IT functions, advising CIOs and developing strategies for IT service providers. Thomas is a regular speaker at industry conferences and has published several articles on the challenges of IT transformation in China.
Prior to joining BCG, Thomas worked at IBM Switzerland's banking group as systems engineer, architect and project manager.
Thomas holds a Masters degree in Science, Information Technology and Business Administration, from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).
Michael Imholz
Partner & Managing Director
Michael is a Partner in our Swiss office. He is a core member of our Insurance and Financial Institutions Practice Groups and leads our local Organization Practice Group activities. Michael spent over one year in our New York office as part of BCG's international program.
Michael focuses mainly on organization, corporate development, and strategy topics in the Financial Services, in particular Insurance industry in Switzerland as well as in several countries across Europe and in Asia. He works on topics around new group strategies and corporate development options, organizational and demographic challenges, comprehensive performance improvement programs, risk management and ALM concepts, as well as the identification of opportunities in growth markets. Furthermore, he is co-author of "Creating Competitive Advantage - The European Insurance Landscape".
Michael holds a Masters degree with focus on Finance and Accounting from the University of St. Gallen (HSG).
Thomas Luippold
Senior Partner & Managing Director
Thomas is a Senior Partner in our Swiss office. He heads our relationship with several leading financial services companies in Switzerland and Europe. Thomas has led the local Financial Services practice for many years. In particular, he has a very broad and deep expertise in the insurance industry. He is also the author of different insurance landscape reports and studies and is co-author of " Creating Competitive Advantage -The European Insurance Landscape". Thomas' project experience covers a broad range of topics, incl. strategy, corporate development, value management, growth and sales effectiveness, operational excellence, process and cost optimization as well as restructuring.
Prior to joining BCG, Thomas worked for UBS in the area of Structured and Leveraged Finance in Zurich and New York. He holds a bank education from Deutsche Bank.
Thomas studied Business Administration at the Universities of Munich and St. Gallen and holds a PhD in Finance from the University of St. Gallen (HSG). In addition Thomas teaches Strategic Management as a professor at the University of Trier in Germany.
Elmar Wiederin
Senior Partner & Chairman
Elmar is a Senior Partner and Chairman of our Swiss office. He joined BCG in 1983 in Munich and moved to Zurich in 1989. The focus of his expertise is supporting large multinationals with their Strategy and Corporate Development. Elmar leads our Consumer Goods Practice and gained extensive expertise in our Financial Institutions and Insurance Practices.
Elmar has worked across a range of industries assisting senior management with the definition of strategic direction and coaching the implementation of transformational changes; defining entry strategies into new markets, businesses or technologies including target acquisition, due diligence and negotiation support; managing post-merger-integration programs for large international companies; developing value creation roadmaps, investor strategies and external communication; assessing core capabilities and cultural fit.
Elmar holds a PhD in Socioeconomics from the University of Innsbruck and an MBA from INSEAD.
Rüdiger Schicht
Partner & Managing Director
Rüdiger is a Partner in our Swiss office and a core member of BCG's Technology, Media & Telecommunications as well as Information Technology Practice Groups. Rüdiger focuses on the telecommunications and the energy sector.
His project work covers a broad range of topics from strategy and corporate development, organization design and change, large scale IT transformation, post-merger process integration as well as sales, marketing and pricing improvement.
Prior to joining BCG he worked six years for Shell (Switzerland) and Shell International in retail planning, retail sales and internal consulting on entries into new geographic markets for downstream oil in Latin America, Asia and CEE. In the latter role he developed market entry strategies and supported the initial set-up of local operations. Rüdiger holds a Masters degree as well as a PhD in Business Administration from the University of St Gallen (HSG).
Ulrik Schulze
Senior Partner & Managing Director
Ulrik leads BCG's Health Care Practice in Switzerland and is a senior member of our global Health Care Practice.
Ulrik has worked intensively with clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medtech, chemical and private equity sectors both in the US, Europe and in Asia. He has significant experience in strategic, operational and organizational topics along the full value chain. He has recently focused on sales force, product launch, pricing, research development, outsourcing as well as organizational aspects. His experience in corporate strategy includes acquisitions, integrations, licensing and alignment of strategy with shareholder value creation. He also works with private equity companies .
Prior to joining BCG, Ulrik worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds a MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark, and earned a PhD in biotechnology with distinction from the Technical University of Denmark.
Pia Tischhauser
Partner & Managing Director
Pia is a Partner in our Swiss office. She is a core member of BCG's global Insurance Practice Group and leads our local Insurance Practice Group activities. She was working for over one year out of the Chicago office for our American based clients.
Pia has served several Financial Services clients – in particular insurance and reinsurance companies – in the US and Europe incl. Eastern Europe. Her experience includes market sizing and base lining, cost reduction projects, risk and performance management, M&A portfolio reviews, PMI/divestiture projects for insurance and industrial investors. Furthermore, she has lead project teams on claims reviews, customer segmentation, investment and run-off strategy, client retention, and loyalty improvement programs.
Prior to joining BCG, Pia was working as Financial Analyst in Investment Banking and as Research Assistant. Pia holds a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Berne and was a graduate scholar at J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, US.
Jörg Funk
Partner & Managing Director
Jörg is a Partner in our Zurich office. He transferred recently back to the office where he started in 1997 after an 8 year stay in the São Paulo office.
Jörg´s experience has been primarily in the technology (telecom, internet, software) and industrial goods sector (mining, basic and construction material, electrical transmission). Among others he was involved in two large transformations of two major telco operators in Latin America, developed scenario-based long-term strategies in different sectors and has broad experience in functional themes such as M&A support, metrics & incentives, organization design and risk management.
Prior to BCG, Jörg worked as a manager of a development group at ISE, a leading software company for simulation tools for semiconductors.
Jörg holds a masters degree in electrical engineering and received a PhD in computational physics, both from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).
Peter Damisch
Partner & Managing Director
Peter is a Partner in our Swiss office. He initially joined BCG's Frankfurt office and moved to Switzerland in 2002. He is a core member of BCG's Financial Institutions Practice and of BCG's Energy Practice. Moreover Peter is very engaged in our global Practice Area "Corporate Development" and leads its local activities in Switzerland.
With regard to financial services Peter has worked a lot on Wealth Management and Retail Banking but is also experienced in other banking areas. Peter has worked on a very broad range of topics including corporate strategy, market-, segment- and product-specific strategy as well as growth strategy, M&A, value-based management, sales force effectiveness, HR topics and process/cost optimization. In the Energy and Utility practice Peters experience includes corporate strategy, value-oriented controlling, organizational design and M&A. With regard to corporate development and corporate finance topics he also disposes of substantial experience across many industries.
Peter holds a Master in Business Administration and Electrical Engineering from Technical University of Darmstadt and Ecole Centrale de Lyon as well as a PhD in Controlling/Corporate Finance from the Technical University of Dresden. Peter speaks German, English, French and Spanish.
Christian Schmid
Partner & Managing Director
Christian is a Partner in our Swiss office. He is a core member and an active contributor to our Global Financial Institutions and Insurance Practice Groups. Outside of Financial Services he is experienced in the fields of Information Technology, Health Care and Industrial Goods. Christian spent several years working in BCG's London, Chicago, Vienna and Eastern European offices.
With over 12 years of experience, Christian worked with leading Financial Services and Health Care players on a broad range of topics, such as strategic repositioning, corporate finance, M&A, post-merger integration, corporate restructuring, shared services, IT and sales force effectiveness.
Prior to joining BCG, Christian worked at IBM Switzerland as a key account manager for several industrial goods corporations.
Christian holds a Masters degree in Land Surveying from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich).
Götz Gerecke
Partner & Managing Director
Götz is a Partner in our Swiss office. He rejoined BCG in 2005 after having worked for BCG's London office from 1995 to 1998. He is a core member of BCG's Healthcare and Consumer Industry Practice Areas and leads the Sales & Marketing Functional Practice Area in Switzerland.
Götz has worked intensively with clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medtech, food service, FMCG, retailing, travel & tourism and private equity sectors. He has recently focused on go-to-market strategy, sales force effectiveness, marketing excellence, pricing, market access, new product launches and other commercial excellence topics as well as turnarounds/restructurings, M&A and due diligences.
Prior to re-joining BCG, Götz was Co-founder and Managing Partner of Wellness Business Partners, an advisory and private equity firm dedicated to the European health & wellness industries, and a Principal with private equity fund Compass Partners International. Before BCG, Götz worked in investment banking for Morgan Stanley and as a Finance Manager for Procter & Gamble.
Götz holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BSc Honors in Business Administration from the European Business School in London.
Jochen Messelink
Partner & Managing Director
Jochen is a Partner in our Swiss office. He joined BCG in 1999 and recently transferred to Switzerland. He has broad international experience and has worked out of BCG's Amsterdam and Los Angeles offices.
Jochen is a core member of BCG's Consumer and Marketing and Sales practices. During his time at BCG, Jochen has worked intensively with leading FMCG, retail, and travel and tourism players on a wide range of topics. Recent focus areas have been go-to-market strategy, organization design, transformation, and capability building. He has also supported multiple cross-border post-merger integrations.
Prior to joining BCG, Jochen owned a company focused on performance management solutions.
Jochen holds a degree in business economics (M.Sc.) from Erasmus University of Rotterdam, where he also studied philosophy (MA), and an MBA from INSEAD.
