Interview Process
The process of interviewing with BCG differs slightly depending on whether you apply for a full-time position or an internship:
- Full-time position:
Candidates for full-time positions will need to successfully go through two rounds of interviews. The first round involves one online case and two face-to-face interviews with two experienced BCG consultants. If you are successful in the first round, a second round of three interviews will be scheduled for another day. - Visiting Associate (internship):
For our internship programme we conduct only one round of three interviews and one online case.
Your interviewers will meet to discuss their impressions of you the same day of the interviews and decide whether to invite you for the second round or whether to extend an offer to you. This means you will get feedback the very same day.
During the interview, we would like to learn more about you:
- We are interested to hear what university-related or extracurricular activities you are involved in, what internships you have completed and what experience you have gained working or studying abroad.
- Often we are more interested in why you have done certain things than the actual outcome. Your motivation is often more fascinating to us than the plain facts. We value candidates whose curiosity and energy goes beyond their academic studies. Are you coaching a football team in your spare time? Have you experienced Africa on a bike?
The second part of our interviews involves an actual client case study:
- We want to see how you approach a strategy-related problem, how you structure it and prioritise the possible solution levers, and finally what solutions you come up with.
- Each of the interviewers will discuss a case from our consulting work with you. They will not test you on your knowledge of the subject nor do they want to hear textbook solutions.
- We are more impressed by careful analysis and strategic thinking than by quick responses. Often, it is the questions you ask that show us your active listening and critical thinking skills. We are also looking for you to effectively pitch your ideas.
- For us, the interviews are an open dialogue: Take notes and make an argument in support of your proposals. We want to challenge you.
At the end of the interview, you have, of course, the opportunity to ask your own questions.
